Size and weight question.
I am 229 pounds and a size 16. I have read a few blogs that people say their size and weight. I read one the other day where the person was like 180 and a size 14. I have a friend who is ten pounds less than me but wears a size bigger. I guess my question is should we set a weight goal or a size goal??? My weight goal is 165 but my ideal size is a 10-12. How is it that people can vary so much in weight but wear around the same size??? I know you have to take your height into consideration but I am still confussed. If I get down to a size 12 but still weigh 15- 20 pounds more than I want to should I be happy or should I get to my goal weight and wear a smaller size?? I am not sure if this made any sense to anyone but me but if you could please help me to understand this.
I wonder about sizes too. Sizes very so much by brand, u cant really go by it, ya know? I currently can wear 18-22 (though the 22s are big on me now) and I am 245 and 5′10″. I would stick to a goal weight. But I think it is more about how you feel. You will know when you get there.
Everybody is proportioned differently. I can’t get down to a size 10 to safe my life believe me I was anorexic in my 20’s trying to get there. I have broad hips and shoulders.

In my opinion size doesn’t really matter and for that fact weight doesn’t really matter either. What matters to me is if I am in a healthy BMI (Body mass index)range. That tells you how much body fat you have. Many scales these day will read your BMI or Body fat also there are sites that give you a general range. BUT if I followed the site I should weigh 140 and that is NEVER going to happen.Women should be between 19 - 25 BMI from what I have read. Try the calculator, a scale is better because it give you, YOUR personal BMI

Part of my understanding of the size/weight thing is around muscle.
I’m 175 now (and a size 14 fits), but not too long ago I was 185 (size 16 ).
I have a lot of muscle because I used to do tons of weight training. So, I have a friend who was also 185 but wears a larger size. I think this is part of the discrepancy.
But there is also differences in clothes as another poster pointed out.
I think if you workout and lose weight you may be a “smaller size” even though you weigh more than you would have thought.
I agree, see how you feel. Try not to worry too much about numbers. When you feel healthy, in shape and good about yourself, that is what matters (at least, that’s my two cents).
Sizes are not really regulated, so unlike men’s formal wear (where the size IS the measurement) manufactures can make up their sizes as they go along. In my closet are clothes ranging from size 12 to size 22 all of which fit well (some a-little loosely!). I think you can use the sizes as a benchmark, like 70% of my clothes are size 18, but I would stick with weight as a goal. Remember though that muscle mass and “build” are gonna come into play. So don’t sweat the numbers too much.
